Laura did CHANGE A CHILDS STORY, how about you?

Laura Biancone was a small business owner when she volunteered as a Court Appointed Child Advocate. Also known as CASA, court-appointed advocates speak up for abused children in foster care. Lauras first assigned child was a non-verbal preschooler with autism residing in a foster home that was inadequate for his needs. The home was ill-equipped to deal with his autism and behavior issues created by his early neglect. Laura fiercely advocated for the childs placement in a home attuned to his developmental needs. The second foster home better suited his developmental and emotional needs. Eventually, the foster parents, Jose and Michael Ortiz, adopted him, and he is thriving under their nurturing attention. His story will stick with me forever, Laura says, Its the most rewarding volunteering you can ever do. Being a CASA has taught Laura to look at things differently, to listen more, and sometimes to talk less. She feels she has grown as an individual, exposed to various cultures and family dynamics. The experience of being a CASA volunteer changed Lauras life. She closed her business and now works with CASA Berks as an Advocate Coordinator. Shes re-enrolled in school with a goal of a degree in Social Work. Laura wants everyone to know, Being a CASA volunteer is extremely rewarding. Every child needs one person who is willing to advocate for them. Interested in learning more about volunteering as a child advocate? Email Christa at: christa@casaberks.org
